As I’m learning to accept that, I’m learning to find joy more in the run, not the time. My shin splints have taken away any choice in the matter – I have to go slow, I have to take it easy, I have to pace myself and listen to my body, otherwise I won’t be able to take a step, much less run a mile.

While I tell my friends to take some quiet time for themselves, to not beat themselves up, to take joy and pride in their accomplishments – I am the worst at taking my own advice. My instinct in running, as in life, is to push myself to and a little past my breaking point. That’s one of the things I’m learning – it’s ok to be slow, it’s ok to still be learning, it’s ok to take my time.

You would think that after a long drive, a night out with friends and waking up at close to noon(!) we wouldn’t want to go for a run, right? WRONG! We did a quick lil 5k around the lake and let me tell you, I wish we had more trail runs here! Superman completed his 5k around the lake in just under 26 minutes and I finished mine at about 43 minutes. Superman and I went to Austin to visit one of my best friend’s and Maid of Honor over this last weekend. Gosh it seems like every time I write a post I have to start with “sorry for the long absence!” So even though I am, I’m going to skip the apologies this time.Ī lot has been happening in the ODM household! Lots of running and lots of living.
